Cultural Fun-Fact

Mexicans (actually, Latin Americans in general) laugh at your silly superstition about Friday the 13th. They know the real threat is from Tuesday the 13th. Stupid gringoes.

Speaking of superstitions, the town is starting to fill up again with peregrinos - pilgrims - and we're not sure why. Last week a bunch of them woke us up by parading through the streets at 4:30am singing hymns through a loudspeaker. They were part of a major annual peregrinacion in which thousands of them walk about 200 miles from Queretaro to Tepeyac, home of the Virgin of Guadalupe, in the mistaken belief that the Virgin gives a shit that they walked all that way. According to the local paper (which has a daily, four-page pullout on this - regrettably not online) this is been the rainiest peregrinacion in 25 years. This either means God has forsaken them, or that He's really funny. We'll settle for either.
