'Cuz He Mixes it with Lead and Makes the World Taste Good

Determined not to let China hog the "we gonna kill yo' babies" spotlight, Mexico steps up! Lead paint on children's toys? Hah! How about lead in children's candy? That do anything for ya? The California Dept. of Public Health has issued an alert [pdf] for "Barrilito" and "Miguelito" candies because

Recent analysis of the two candies by CDPH determined that Barrilito contained 0.15 parts per million (ppm) of lead and Miguelito contained 0.13 ppm of lead. California considers candies with lead levels in excess of 0.1 ppm adulterated.

We have no idea what these candies are, but if they're popular with the Mexicans in California, they're even more popular with the Mexicans in Mexico. So of course the Mexcian health authorities, upon learning that there's this popular children's candy has more lead than a No. 2 pencil, immediately said,"Yeah. Whatever." No notice, no recall. And do you really want Big Brother stealing candy from your baby anyway?

(In case you're wondering, one of the possible reasons there would be lead in candy, according to El Universal is that maybe "they cook it using leaded gasoline." What the fuckin' fuck?)
