The Day the Music Died

Sixty years ago today, August 28, 1947, the great torero Manolete was gored to death in Linares, Spain, an event that has become bullfighting's equivalent of Lou Gehrig Day.

Short, cheesy video here. And we had no idea there was such a thing as Toropedia, but you can read (not very much) more there.

And here (beginning at about 2:40) is Manolete in Mexico City, 1945:

By the way, Islero, the bull who killed Manolete, also died 60 years ago today. Any bulls reading this may want to think about that for a minute.

When El Cordobes (the father) bites the dust, it will be my moment of truth relative to getting old.
