Greetings from Fat City

Statistic of the day: workers in the state of Querétaro are the best-paid in all of central Mexico, making on average....drumroll, please...236 pesos a day! That's $21.42, at today's rate.

Here in the center of the state capital, an awful lot of people appear to make more than 21 bucks a day (Razr phones - which I can't afford - are really popular with the kids here), which makes means there are vast numbers of people out in the hinterlands who have never seen 236 pesos all in one place. Just yesterday we spent half the average queretano's weekly salary on a tank of gas. And, again, this is one of the wealthier regions of Mexico.
