Pride of the Yanquis

Hank Aaron hit 755 home runs not only without the benefit of steroids, but also without weak-ass Mexican pitchers. Whereas seventeen of Bonds' homers were Made in Mexico, only Veracruz's Vicente Romo got drilled by Hammerin' Hank. ("I wanted to surprise him with a fastball, but I was the one who was surprised." Mexicans: They throw the pitches Americans don't want to.) That was 34 years ago, but the press has of course dug him up and is touting him as "A Proud Victim of Hank." This comes on the heels of a two-part, four page profile of Maximino Léon, who was a teammate of Aaron's, a Mexican, and...well, that's about it. He met Bonds once, and Bonds was nice to him. Romo, on the other hand, has never met Barry Bonds, but did give up a run to Bobby Bonds.

We'll keep you posted as new details emerge, so check back frequently.
