What's the Matter With Arkansas?

The Republican-controlled legislature in the great state of Arkansas recently - and, they assure us, completely accidentally - passed a law allowing children of any age, right down to newborns, to marry with parental consent. Needless to say, panic has ensued:

Several lawmakers said a special session might be necessary to fix the error. Senator Sue Madison, a Democrat, said, “I am concerned about pedophiles coming to Arkansas to find parents who are willing to sign a very young child’s consent.”

We assume that Sen. Madison knows her constituents better than we do. Now, everyone knows that Massachusetts is a decadent liberal enclave, a place where family values go to die, and where the tradition of marriage is under perpetual assault from the godless sodomites. (We know this because our phony haircut of an ex-governor is running for president on exactly that platform.) But does anyone believe that, faced with a similar situation, Commonwealth officials would leap into action out of a genuine fear that local parents would start giving their children away to out-of-state pedophiles?

Why not ask some poor woman who has, oh, I don't know, maybe 4 children?
