The Power Game (An Update)

You may recall (since you have nothing more important to think about than our problems) that our our electric meter was stolen last year, which, aside from being a major pain in the ass, really kind of baffled the shit out of us. Why would anyone steal something that does nothing but make it easy for the electric company to charge you?

Well the other day our landlord's sister came to visit and it turns out she had wondered that, too. The scam, as she had it explained to her, is that regardless of the meter's location, the charges run through that particular meter (identified by its serial number) get charged to us. So if you steal my meter and hook it up to the soccer stadium, I'll be on the hook for $10,000 next month. That's why it's so important to report your meter stolen as soon as it happens (which in our case was complicated by the fact that it was the Saturday before New Years Eve.)

Another Mexico mystery solved. 500 more years and we'll have this place figured out.
