Never Saw It Coming

Dept. of Good [albeit poorly thought out] Intentions:

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico — Two disabled police officers, part of a special unit to help the disabled, were shot dead while on traffic patrol in northern Mexico.

...Tirso Reza, 50, and Jose Luis Paez, 47, worked for a police unit dedicated to helping disabled people, including by ensuring that parking spaces designated for them were not illegally occupied.

Reza was wheelchair-bound, while Paez had extremely weak eyesight.

Our many age-related mental and physical infirmities notwithstanding, we would not presume to speak for the disabled. Still, while we can see why certain ethnic groups might demand a police force that looks like them, we find it hard to believe that disabled people living in a dangerous area of Mexico wouldn't prefer a police force comprised exclusively of people who can stand upright and see.
