The Disneyfication of NY Continues

Narcomantas, the scrawled-on-a-bedsheet messages that are basically the drug cartels' version of Twitter, have been co-opted by a group called Estemos Unidos Mexicanos, the idea being...okay, we really have no idea what the idea is, but it seems to be more or less an "Up With People"-style cheerleading effort. "The criminals are organized - why aren't we?" etc. Earlier this week they hung what we believe may be New York City's first narcomanta, outside Bryant Park on Sixth Avenue.

We always hoped NYC's first narcomanta would be the real deal, preferably accompanied by a cooler full of human heads, but it would seem that the city of Taxi Driver and The Warriors is long gone. Incidentally, it took us a minute to figure out why Bryant Park, but then realized that's a statue of Benito Juárez.

Don't forget, "Escape From New York" and "Fort Apache: The Bronx."

AS usual Sr Burro is a Burro, the Narcos have used YouTube Videos of torture to deliver their message.

The narcos are even using a blog with many readers (not this one) to deliver their mantas.

La Familia Michoacana Cartel is delivery this heart-felt message explaining their mission of protecting their beloved Michoacan.

That's all very interesting. True, even. We're not sure how it contradicts anything we just said, though.
