Texans Won't Let No Gub'mint Bureaucrat Tell Them What to Do

March 3:

Texas issues Mexican spring break travel warning

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has warned students to avoid visiting Mexico for the Spring Break in the wake of fresh killings and drug-related violence in the country.

"Avoid traveling in Mexico during Spring Break and stay alive," DPS said in a statement, adding that about 65 Americans were killed in Mexico last year, during drug war violence.

March 8:

Mexico travel is up despite bad publicity over drug war

The number of tourists traveling from Texas to Mexico's top beach destinations and resort areas is up by 12 percent despite a continued stream of negative media coverage of drug war and travel warnings.

...The increase in tourism from Texas has been seen most prominently in top beach destinations and resort areas, including Cancun, Cozumel, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Maya.

I'd go to any one of the 3C's in a New York minute (Cabo, Cancun, Cozumel). I took the kids to Acapulco last year. I think it is on our must miss destinations list this year although I'm happy to report our taxi driver is alive and well.

The advisory only seems to be avoiding travel in Mexico. Staying drunk and stupid is another option entirely.
