Great Moments in Tithing

We thought we might lay off the pope for a while, but then [via the Mexfiles dude] this comes along:
Even the Narcos Can Help Pay for the Benedict XVI's Visit to Mexico

In a sort of "confession," the Archbishop of León, José Guadalupe Martín Rábago, agree that even narcotraffickers could help to pay for the popes visit to Mexico, since the Catholic clergy doesn't have the means to ensure that none of their donations come from organized crime.
Given that he's coming to preach a backwards doctrine of homophobia, anti-contraception and acceptance of poverty, we hardly find the de facto auctioning of papal indulgences to mass murders to be the most offensive part of his visit. In fact, we kind of admire the honesty. As the old joke goes, we've already established what you are, Madam - now we're just haggling over the price.
