Weeds

Meet Querétaro's middle-aged-single-mom pot brownie lady, Maria Fernanda Beltrán Ayala, busted a couple days ago with half an ounce of dope and "271 grams, 500 milligrams of bitter chocolate brownies containing pieces of said herb in their interior," to give you just a taste of how incredibly thorough a Mexican police investigation can be when nothing is at stake.

Local news reports are - this will shock you - somewhat conflicting. In the Cenrto Historico we are accosted a dozen times a day by women selling handmade dolls, scarves, dishtowels, and, most baffling, ceramic turtles. No one has ever offered us pot brownies. But Ms Beltrán was apparently busted doing just that, which makes no sense, and possibly with her young daughter in tow, which, true or not, we want to believe because it makes it more awesome. Being caught in possession of drugs removes the necessity of a trial, so she's in jail now awaiting sentencing. That's right - she might do time in a Mexican prison for three pot brownies.

Never let it be said that Mexico ain't in this drug war to win it.

And those look good and chewy, too. Shame...

I just asked the other half yesterday if he would make some, but I guess I won't hawk them around the 'hood.

I was telling my wife yesterday that I have started reading your blog because you are trying to get at the truth of Mexico. You also seem pretty authentic, which in this world is a good thing. So please keep the details coming because piece by piece the whole thing becomes more recognizable. I often wonder what the history of this time will read like in 50 years or so. Could we have fucked it up any worse? Maybe, we are after all pinche gringos.

This is ridiculous: To incarcerate a woman for 3 dop brownies!
I guess you need to move from the sphere from these stupid countries that still wage "the war on drugs" the wrong way...
Portugal is an excellent example, they are treating the causes nos the symptoms, plua they are not making drug capos stronger and richer!
