We're Americans living in Mexico. We make documentaries that air on PBS. And we've written about the Humaya Cemetery in Culiacán. The same things are true of Natalia Almada but for some reason [coughpoliticscough!], unlike her, we've been snubbed yet again by the MacArthur Foundation's "Genius Grants" committee. Hey, what would we have done with a half-million dollars, no strings attached, anyway?
We were going to embed her excellent film on the cemetery, El Velador, here, but like most PBS videos, it rather annoyingly starts to play as soon as you open the page. But so here's the link. It's totally worth your time. And we're not just saying that because we're sucking up to the rich lady, okay?
