Season's Greetings from Querétaro, in the heart of the fattest and most increasingly diabetic nation on Earth, where last night many major roads and thoroughfares were closed so that the Coca-Cola Christmas Caravan could spread its sugary goodness on the city's children!
The local edition of El Universal covered it uncritically, of course, and still let Coke take out a full page, unmarked "advertorial" covering the blessed event themselves.
Lest we be accused of excessive Grinchiness - who would criticize a Christmas Caravan? - we'll remind our northern readers that Coke and other sugar-water bottlers are locked in a fierce battle with the Mexican government to kill, or at least minimize its plan to tax the bejesus out of them for the minor crime of killing more Mexicans prematurely than the Sinaloa Cartel. Querétaro's government, however, sees no reason not to turn its streets over to an hours-long corporate advertising spectacle. No wonder Coca-Cola Santa "also believes in you, [Mexico]."
