The Return of Our Man In Vatican City Returns to Vatican City

Have we mentioned how much we love Plaza de Armas, the ongoing piece of performance art masquerading as our local newspaper? The Venegas family-owned broadsheet is your one-stop-shop for all things Venegas family-related.

But we reserve our greatest affection for Chief Junket Correspondent/Executive Editor Sergio A Venegas Ramirez - rather coincidentally the son of the Publisher, Sergio Venegas Alarcon.  Yes, he's broken a lot of stories at home about himself interviewing public figures, but his most stellar work comes when he packs his bags  - and those of his trusted photographer, Alejandra Vilchis, who rather coincidentally happens to be Mrs Sergio Venegas Ramirez - and heads to the Vatican to bring us the kind of Sergio Venegas Ramirez news that can only be unearthed by Sergio Venegas Ramirez himself. ("Sergio Venegas Ramirez Interviews Press Officer"[2013] being the ur-text here.)

So of course, with Mexico's Favorite Pope about to be canonized for his role in covering up a decades-long, worldwide child rape conspiracy, Our Man In Vatican City is hunkered down at the press office buffet, and will stay there as long as it takes. Today, he pretty much owns the "Sergio Venegas Ramirez Interviews Mexican Official" story, with his hot, hot scoop on how he interviewed the Mexican Ambassador to the Vatican. The Ambassador happens to be a priista from Querétaro, of course, so this is roughly the equivalent of the Boston Globe landing a chat with Ray Flynn.

But what takes it from good to great is the photograph (by Alejandra Vilchis - exclusive to Plaza de Armas - who rather coincidentally happens to be Mrs Sergio Venegas Ramirez) which takes up the entire top half of page one. A similar one takes up almost the entire first page of the special "Desde el Corazón de Roma" pull-out section. In all, five photographs of Sergio Venegas Ramirez (all by Alejandra Vilchis, who rather coincidentally happens to be Mrs Sergio Venegas Ramirez) appear in today's paper - two more than of the Ambassador.

We love love love this paper!
